What are the benefits of GEMTA?
Monthly meetings throughout the school year provide opportunities for fellow music teachers to meet and exchange ideas regarding teaching techniques, materials, media, concert opportunities, and so much more.
KEY Contest: GEMTA provides an annual piano contest in the fall, which includes technique as well as performance opportunities for your students.
Hoosier Auditions: This music contest is established through the Indiana Music Teachers Association and provides students the possibility of performing not only at a local level, but also in a state competition.
Teacher & Student Scholarships: Every spring GEMTA provides scholarship auditions for students who plan to attend a summer music camp. The Sandra Botkin Collegiate Piano Scholarship is one scholarship available for students preparing to enter college and study music. Teachers are also eligible for scholarships to assist with fees for educational music conferences.
Concerts for Students & Teachers: GEMTA strives to give teachers and students of all ages and abilities the chance to perform for and with each other. As fundraiser events, these concerts help provide support for activities throughout the year.
Membership is open to all area piano teachers and to all others interested in the objectives of GEMTA. There are two classes of membership:
(a) Paid member of the Indiana Music Teachers Association (IMTA) and the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA). This level of membership allows a teacher to participate in all GEMTA and State/National activities.
(b) Local GEMTA membership only: This level of membership allows a teacher to attend local meetings and enter students in all local GEMTA activities, except for the Hoosier Auditions, which is sponsored by the IMTA. Local GEMTA members can enter students in the Hoosier Auditions for an additional fee, paid to the State.
Membership dues are different for each level of membership. Please contact us for current dues.
Only active members of GEMTA (who attend at least six meetings during the year, and participate on a committee and in all fundraising projects) will be eligible for GEMTA student and teacher camp and workshop scholarships.
